Sue Stott

Sue Stott hopes her gift will set an example for her sons while also supporting a cause she is passionate about.

Sue Stott, R.N., has been a nurse for almost 25 years. Following stints at other local healthcare providers and five years in Abu Dhabi and United Arab Emirates, she returned about three years ago to Presbyterian's Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she had worked in the late 1990s. She now works in the Discharge Call Center, where she helps to smooth the transition home for patients discharged from the hospital.

As a so-called "boomerang," or returning employee, Sue has a newfound appreciation for Presbyterian's collegial atmosphere and team approach to patient care.

"I've always loved patient care," Sue says. "You look at patients not as a diagnosis or disease, but as a person. You give them hope, encourage them, motivate them to do things they don't want to do. You care for them and laugh with them."

Upon her return to the ICU, Sue was impressed to learn that new, built-in guest beds in patient rooms were funded by Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation donors. She has also appreciated the long history of support from the Foundation for nursing education. "If you want quality care, nurses need quality, ongoing education," she says.

When Sue updated her estate plan a few years ago, she made provisions in her will to support nursing education and patient equipment, while also supporting her loved ones. She likes the idea of helping to fund programs important to her and setting a strong example for her two sons.
