David Welde, a retired CPA, created an endowed (permanent) fund this year to honor his late wife and support nursing scholarships for Presbyterian Cancer Care. Income from the Judith Maybee Welde Memorial Fund will support nurses pursuing degree-granting or continuing education programs, and conferences required for advanced training and to maintain certifications.

Judy was a well-known credit union executive, serving as president and CEO of New Mexico Central Credit Union among other senior positions during her career. In retirement, she found great meaning as a volunteer with Presbyterian's Cancer Care Resource Centers.

The Cancer Care Resource Centers, located at the Presbyterian Kaseman office building and Presbyterian Rust Medical Center (within the Ted and Margaret Jorgensen Cancer Center), serve women in active cancer treatment.

Services include wig fittings, as well as special bra and prosthetic fittings. Comfort items including pillows, blankets and hats are provided, in addition to information about cancer and community services. Contributions to Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation's cancer patient assistance fund support this program and provide subsidies for cancer patient transportation, lodging and other needs.

The Judith Maybee Welde Memorial Fund creates a permanent legacy for David and Judy, and honors both Judy's own breast cancer battle and the caregivers who assisted her. We are privileged to honor Judy in such a meaningful way and extend heartfelt thanks to David. Memorial contributions in Judy's honor have already funded scholarships for six Presbyterian Cancer Care nurses.
