Setting a Strong Example

Becky and Rudy Diaz take pride in leaving a permanent legacy with the Becky and Rudy Diaz Endowment for Hospice.

They're the cute couple in radio and TV ads for a local plumbing, heating, and cooling contractor. But Rudy and Becky Diaz are perhaps most well-known for wideranging community involvement throughout their almost 54-year marriage. They've left their mark everywhere from youth baseball, to the UNM Lobo Club (of which Rudy is a former Board member), to Presbyterian Healthcare Services.

Some know Rudy for his 30-year career with Dixon Paper Company, and his board service to the Executives' Association of Greater Albuquerque, American Advertising Federation New Mexico, and the Better Business Bureau.

As Softball Commissioner for Roadrunner Little League, Becky recruited coaches, umpired and trained others, and inspired countless kids. She is perhaps most well known for her volunteer service to Presbyterian, where she contributed over 20 years and 5,110 hours, much of it to Presbyterian's Hospice program.

She calls her ability to work with dying patients "a gift." She helped with bathing, linen changes, and other tasks, but says it was little things that mattered most—spending time with patients, listening to their stories, and, most importantly, providing a gentle touch.

Becky and Rudy have taken great pride in setting a strong example for their two daughters and four grandchildren—not only with their volunteerism, but also philanthropy. They've made regular gifts to Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation and arrangements in their estate for a gift of IRA proceeds to create the Becky and Rudy Diaz Endowment for Hospice, which will provide income for Hospice staff education, patient basic needs, and equipment and supplies.

We applaud Becky and Rudy for their many contributions.
